SOME WORTHWHILE READING AMIDST A SEA OF BOOKS
By some estimates, 185,000 books were published last year. Which ones are worth reading? Here are a few, (I think) that are worth the time and the money.
HEAVEN & EARTH BY DR. IAN PLIMER
This Australian scientist and widely acclaimed academic joins the huge number of "Deniers" who claim, backed with scientific evidence galore, that CO2 based global warming is a giant myth, perpetrated for political purposes. Plimer's book sold out the first 5 printings globally and I had to wait weeks to even get a copy. Clearly, the rest of the world would rather trust a credentialed scientist armed with proof than a washed up politician armed with lies and fictional data.
Consider one of Plimer's more direct quotes:
-----"If we humans, in a fit of ego, think we can change these normal planetary processes, then we need stronger medication."
Regarding the IPCC reports upon which Al Gore and all the Global Warming alarmists based their claims, not only was the data manipulated, but the so-called scientists were ill-equipped to even analyze data of this kind.
-----"In the 1996 report on the impact of global warming on health, one contributing author was an expert on the effectiveness of motorcycle helmets. That author had also written on the health effects of mobile phones. Other authors were environmental activists, one of whom had written on the health effects of mercury poisoning from land mines. ...In the 2007 report, the health effects of global warming were expertly dealt with by two lead authors, one of whom was a hygienist and another a specialist in coprolites (fossil feces.)
----To reduce modern climate change to one variable (CO2) or more correctly, a small proportion of one variable (i.e., human-produced CO2) is not science, especially as it requires abandoning all we know about planet Earth, the Sun and the cosmos."
----"...CO2 is not a pollutant. Global warming and high CO2 content bring prosperity and lengthen your life. Carbon dioxide is plant food, is necessary for life, and without CO2, there would be no complex life on earth."
Plimer includes a chart that compares temperature increase from 1990 to 2008 against computer predicted CO2 emissions--with a negative correlation, not a positive one. At the end of the caption, it says: "This diagram shows that the hypothesis that human emissions of CO2 create global warming is invalid."
Of course the political and environmental movement want to make CO2 the culprit and extract huge "taxes" in the form of Cap & Trade. Form your own opinions.
PURSUIT OF ELEGANCE BY MATTHEW MAY
(From the dust cover) In this thought-provoking exploration of why certain events, products, and people capture our attention and imaginations, Matthew E. May examines the elusive element behind so many innovative breakthroughs in fields ranging from physics and marketing to design and popular culture. Combining unusual simplicity and surprising power, elegance is characterized by four key elements: seduction, subtraction, symmetry and sustainability. ...May offers surprising evidence that what's "not there" often trumps what is.
LIBERTY & TYRANNY BY MARK LEVIN
This is a book that conservatives will love and liberals (described as "statists" by Levin) will--and do--hate. In fact, it is one of the best manifesto's of what conservatism stand for that is good, and how its opponents will and are wreaking havoc, as they steal or liberty, and resort to outright tyranny in the process. Levin goes back to the tenets of the founding fathers and Natural Law to build forward.
HOW THE MIGHTY FALL BY JIM COLLINS
In a small book intended to be a paper, not a book, Collins analyzes from hard data why a group of once great and mighty companies fell into oblivion. The book is worth the price just to understand his Five Stages of Decline and how they happen: 1) Hubris born of success; 2) Undisciplined pursuit of more; 3) Denial of risk and peril; 4) Grasping for salvation; and 5) Capitulation to irrelevance of death. Forewarned is forearmed.
HOW WE DECIDE BY JONATHAN LEHRER
Lehrer's goal is to answer two questions that are of interest to just about anyone, from CEOs to firefighters: How does the human mind make decisions? And how can we make those decisions better. (NOTE: I am only about 1/3 through this one and I am fascinated already.)

AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT OBAMA
Dear President Obama:
You are the thirteenth President under whom I have lived and unlike any of the others, you truly scare me. You scare me because after months of exposure, I know nothing about you.
You scare me because I do not know how you paid for your expensive Ivy League education and your upscale lifestyle and housing with no visible signs of support
You scare me because you did not spend the formative years of youth growing up in America and culturally you are not an American.
You scare me because you have never run a company or met a payroll.
You scare me because you have never had military experience, thus don't understand it at its core.
You scare me because you lack humility and 'class', always blaming others.
You scare me because for over half your life you have aligned yourself with radical extremists who hate America and you refuse to publicly denounce these radicals who wish to see America fail.
You scare me because you are a cheerleader for the 'blame America' crowd and deliver this message abroad.
You scare me because you want to change America to a European style country where the government sector dominates instead of the private sector.
You scare me because you want to replace our health care system with a government controlled one.
You scare me because you prefer 'wind mills' to responsibly capitalizing on our own vast oil, coal and shale reserves.
You scare me because you want to kill the American capitalist goose that lays the golden egg which provides the highest standard of living in the world
You scare me because you have begun to use 'extortion' tactics against certain banks and corporations.
You scare me because your own political party shrinks from challenging you on your wild and irresponsible spending proposals.
You scare me because you will not openly listen to or even consider opposing points of view from intelligent people.
You scare me because you falsely believe that you are both omnipotent and omniscient.
You scare me because the media gives you a free pass on everything you do.
You scare me because you demonize and want to silence the Limbaughs, Hannitys, O'Relllys and Becks who offer opposing, conservative points of view.
You scare me because you prefer controlling over governing.
Finally, you scare me because if you serve a second term I will probably not feel safe in writing a similar letter in 8 years.

THE BOTTOM LINE:
FINALLY..... THE $64,000 QUESTION WAS ASKED.
YESTERDAY ON "ABC-TV" (BETTER KNOWN AS THE "ALL BARACK CHANNEL") DURING THE "NETWORK SPECIAL ON HEALTH CARE".... OBAMA WAS ASKED:
"MR. PRESIDENT WILL YOU AND YOUR FAMILY GIVE UP YOUR CURRENT HEALTH CARE PROGRAM AND JOIN THE NEW 'UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE PROGRAM' THAT THE REST OF US WILL BE ON ????"..... (BET YOU ALREADY KNOW THE ANSWER)...
THERE WAS A STONEY SILENCE AS OBAMA IGNORED THE QUESTION AND CHOSE NOT TO ANSWER IT....
IN ADDITION, A NUMBER OF SENATORS WERE ASKED THE SAME QUESTION AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS..."WE WILL THINK ABOUT IT."
AND THEY DID. IT WAS ANNOUNCED TODAY ON THE NEWS THAT THE "KENNEDY HEALTH CARE BILL" WAS WRITTEN INTO THE NEW HEALTH CARE REFORM INITIATIVE, ENSURING THAT THAT CONGRESS WILL BE 100%EXEMPT ! This should speak volumes to all of us.
SO, THIS GREAT NEW HEALTH CARE PLAN THAT IS GOOD FOR YOU AND ME... IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR OBAMA, HIS FAMILY OR CONGRESS...?? WE (THE AMERICAN PUBLIC) NEED TO STOP THIS PROPOSED DEBACLE ASAP !!!!... THIS IS TOTALLY WRONG !!!!!
IF YOU AGREE PLEASE PASS THIS O N ....IF NOT PLAN TO SUFFER WITH THE OBAMA HEALTH CARE PLAN ....FOR FREE.... WHILE OUR SELF-SERVING POLITICIANS MAKE SURE THAT THEY TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES AND THEIR FAMILIES AT OUR EXPENSE.
