IF I KNEW THAT ANSWER, I'D BE SITTING IN MY CHALET OVERLOOKING LAKES, MOUNTAINS, ETC.
Nobody knows that answer, because nobody knows exactly what China will do nex—OR THE US FED! The stock market is like a living, breathing, organism made of thousands of pieces--people, stocks, bonds, opinions, and worst of all fears. When panic sets in, rational thought is suspended. When cooler heads prevail, order is restored--but not without some pain and suffering. Right now, sitting on the sidelines makes sense, because volatility and emotional responses are controlling the markets. If you have some cash sitting around, and know of an absolutely "golden" stock to buy…go ahead and buy it…but expect it to drop before it goes back up. That's how these things work.
ONE THING YOU CAN RELY ON: THE PRESIDENT IS AS CLUELESS AS WE ARE--MAYBE MORE SO
Do not expect the government to save you on this one. At best, it does nothing and doesn't make things worse. At worst, it tries to fix things and makes a bigger mess of them. This president and his minions do not understand free enterprise capitalism. They are big government progressive socialists, and as such, their natural tendencies will make this kind of situation worse, not better.
THE PLAGUE OF AMERICA'S RAMPANT MEDIOCRITY
(A Socialist Utopia where everybody is equal--and mediocre!)
Trophies for participation go to all of the kids participating. Growing government jobs provide near lifetime employment with minimal performance standards, Teachers unions and tenure protect the worst at the expense of the best teachers. "Good enough" has become a prevailing mantra--and at $10-15 minimum wage levels!
JOB MISMATCH WITH MOTIVATION
Hundreds of thousands of American jobs go unfilled
1) because there are not enough people with the SKILLS to fill them on the higher-wage end (and apparently unwilling to go learn the new skills needed OR
2) People are trapped geographically in the wrong places, and can't or don't want to sell homes at a loss and move without knowing there will be a job on the other end OR
2) On lower skill work for modest pay--not enough Americans willing to leave the Obama-economic-slavery-welfare-nanny state to actually WORK for a living. (So they default to low age immigrant laborers who gladly take those jobs!)
IT'S NOT WILL AMERICANS FIND WORK? IT'S ARE AMERICANS LOSING THE "WILL TO WORK?"
Too many Americans have forsaken the "will to work" and "be responsible" for being taken care of and constantly demanding more--like a bunch of spoiled kids--the generation parents are raising and ruining right now. American productivity is not growing, and where it is, that happens because technology replaces what people used to do…thus fewer jobs result…and more people simply drop out of the work force and either go on Obama's rich welfare, claim vaguely untraceable disabilities, or "retire" albeit without enough resources to survive to the new, longer life expectancy.
CONGRESS WON'T BE ABLE TO STOP THE IRAN DEAL
The Democrats will largely follow President Obama like lemmings over a cliff. That's why there are very few "good Democrats"--they simply cannot, and will not stand up and be counted on beliefs vs. political pressure. Chuck Schumer's apparent defection is simple a token ploy--don't be fooled by it. Democrats will fall in line with the party vote--count on that.
CONGRESS CAN PROPOSE--VERY STRONGLY-- A SUPPLEMENTARY AGREEMENT TO THE IRAN DEAL
There are all sorts of amendments and deals hidden in this hopelessly conciliatory agreement. But then look who negotiated it--John Kerry and his troop of weaklings, guided by the Muslim Pacifist in Chief, Barack Hussein Obama. Congress should draft a supplemental agreement dealing with the big failures (not the little ones) of the deal--such as the protracted wait time for inspections, failure to return hostages held by Iran, and whose technical expertise is included in inspections…and ram it through. Force a Senate fight and an Obama veto. At least the American people will see the GOP controlled Congress doing the right things.
WHEN THE CHINESE LEADER COMES TO DINE WITH PRESIDENT OBAMA: CYBER-ISSUES MUST BE ONE OF THE TOP AGENDA ITEMS (ALONG WITH GLOBAL CURRENCY MANIPULATION AND LYING ABOUT ECONOMIC GROWTH)
President Obama is a lousy negotiator. He is a worse judge of who has how much power and influence--unless it is his own. Thus world leaders "take him to the cleaners" every time they meet--getting all kinds of concessions and money we don't have to give them (we have to borrow it--remember, we are deeply in the red as a country)
HERE IS AN EXCELLENT OP ED PIECE BY WILLIAM GALSTON IN THE WSJ:
THE FIVE PLAUSIBLE GOP CANDIDATES
THE TOPIC OF THE SUMMER: TRUMP AND THE GOP HOPEFULS
MY TOP CHOICE REMAINS THE SAME--THE BEST OF THE BUNCH--MARCO RUBIO (the GOP version of JFK!)
MY NEXT CHOICE IS OUR OHIO GOV.--A SOLID, PROVEN MAN--JOHN KASICH (has all the credentials)
These two potential candidates have complementary skills, experience, backgrounds and outlooks. Who goes atop the ticket is arguable, but first let's settle on the two. One from OHIO, one from FLORIDA, both critical states to win.
Rubio is young, and relatively less experienced, but he is also very bright, has done his homework, is accomplished beyond his years (much more so than Obama was in 2008), and has a really good grasp of both foreign and domestic issues and policies. His positions may need a little tweaking (like his tax plan), but he is the future…and he can articulate things better than all the others. (Given he's never "run anything…" but many other successful presidents had not, either.)
Kasich is the opposite: Seasoned, experienced in both foreign and especially domestic matters, long time in Congress with many achievements, strong performance in OH as governor, a stint in the private sector finance world. He is blunt (sometimes to a fault) about what he thinks and believes. He is not the greatest orator, but when his sincerity and passion shows through, he comes across just fine. (If he doesn't wander off subject too far.)
Trump will continue his fun and games, saying what everybody wishes a candidate would say, even when he really has no workable idea of really how to do what he says he will do! He will drive the pretenders out of the race. He will disrupt others plans. Mostly, someday, he will tire of this and realize that his best role is as "kingmaker" and not the 'king." in that role, he would throw his support behind the two candidates--and the two listed above are very likely two he could respect and support.
The rest…provide cabinet hopefuls and advisors for the nominees (and hopefully next President & VP).
Sitting governors (e.g., Jindal, Christie) and Senators (e.g., Graham, Paul and Cruz) are more valuable staying where they are holding their spots for the GOP.
THAT'S PLENTY FOR THIS WEEK.
ENJOY THE LATE SUMMER WEATHER AND LABOR DAY WEEKEND.
JOHN
